Trichology Queensland

Janne Scougal-Hunt has been practicing trichology for 16 years. She is the president of the International Association of Trichologists (I.A.T.) and president of the I.A.T. Queensland Branch.

She has personally trained 24 of the 40 practicing trichologists in Australia, regularly lectures to hairdressers between Brisbane and Cairns and works closely with hair companies Gresham, PPS and de Lorenzo.

Trichology is a little known word but one of huge importance for anyone suffering hair loss or scalp problems.

Trichologists are specialists who have been specifically trained to treat hair loss and scalp conditions with the most common being:

Trichology Queensland Alopecia areata
Trichology Gold CoastGeneral diffuse thinning
Trichology BrisbaneMale pattern thinning
TrichologyScarring alopecia
Trichology QueenslandPsoriasis
Trichology Gold CoastDandruff
Trichology BrisbaneSeborrheic dermatitis
TrichologyPityriasis amiantacea (thick crusty scale)

Treatments are both simple and affordable with emphasis on diet and nutrition, vitamin, mineral and amino acid supplements and specific ointments and creams for scalp problems, formulated to achieve efficient, safe results.

Janne can provide a hair trace mineral analysis test, an excellent diagnostic tool as up to 30 different minerals can be detected in your hair.

The list of trace minerals analysed include:

Nutrient minerals:

CALCIUM PHOSPHOROUS MAGNESIUM CHROMIUM
IRON SODIUM MANGANESE SULPHUR
ZINC POTASSIUM COBALT BORON
COPPER SELENIUM MOLYBDENUM VANADIUM

Toxic minerals:

LEAD ARSENIC MERCURY CADMIUM
ALUMINIUM NICKEL BERYLLIUM ANTIMONY

The hair sample is obtained by cutting the hair close to the scalp in the nape area. The amount of hair needed for the test would, approximately, be sufficient to fill a tablespoon. The hair sample must be natural hair as hair that has been permanently coloured or bleached or permanently waved, is unacceptable due to the structural changes which have occurred during these processes.

The hair sample is washed in special water and solvent solutions - thoroughly dried - weighed - and placed in an acid solution where it is dissolved.

The resulting solution is then analysed by special laboratory instruments which can then measure the minerals in the hair. A report is prepared by the laboratory technician and any abnormalities detected will show in a computer generated statement. Abnormalities may be contributed to stress, cardiac conditions, arthritis, low blood sugar, hair loss, scalp/skin conditions and a myriad of other health problems - most of which can often at times be reduced through diet and / or nutritional supplements.

Hair trace mineral analysis can also be used to enhance back to school performance. For instance, heavy metals (lead etc) have been associated with depressed IQ both verbal and performance, undesirable behaviour, decreased reading and spelling achievement, emotional disturbances and dyslexia.

Hair lead has been more strongly related to performance IQ than to verbal IQ. Conversely, hair cadmium was more strongly related to verbal IQ than performance IQ. Hair cadmium and lead were significantly correlated with both intelligence score and school achievement scores.

Increases in aluminium and the interaction of aluminium with lead were significantly related to decreased visual-motor performance. Levels of metals previously thought harmless may be associated with emotional disturbances in children.

Therefore: test for toxins - find the source - treat.
